Frequently asked questions: everything you need to know about choosing toys

To choose the right toy, it's important to consider the child's development and interests at different ages. Toys should match the child's motor and cognitive abilities. For babies, for example, opt for early-learning toys that stimulate the senses, while for older children, construction and educational toys may be more appropriate.

To help you make your choice, you can refer to the recommended age on the toy's box or online product sheet. In fact, this age is determined according to several criteria, including the child's skills for a given age range, safety, understanding of more or less complex game mechanics, children's tastes for certain worlds... Our teams have also thought of solutions for all your searches for gift ideas or original toys: starting with our Idea Factory, on the home page of our site, but also our selection of gift ideas by age.

Varying toys at home helps stimulate various aspects of a child's development. These include fine and gross motor skills, creative thinking, imagination and emotional intelligence. Various types of toys, such as puzzles, musical toys and books, encourage children to explore and learn new ways of playing.

In addition, introducing toys that encourage different types of activity, such as games of skill for the development of coordination and strength, educational games for cognitive skills and manual activities for creativity, ensures that the child receives balanced stimulation. It can also help them discover their particular passions and talents from an early age, while reinforcing their independence and ability to occupy their time constructively.

The safety of a toy can be assessed by several criteria: make sure it is approved by European safety standards (CE), check that it does not contain small parts that could be ingested by small children, and choose non-toxic and robust materials.

All Janod toys are certified by independent laboratories to comply with current standards and regulations. We work closely with internationally-renowned laboratories on all technical aspects and issues, issuing certificates and test reports that enable us to comply with the European standard and the various standards of the areas in which we market our toys.

All our products are chemically tested in accordance with the Toys Directive and REACH (European regulation which came into force in 2007 to secure the manufacture and use of chemical substances in European industry). The aim is to identify, evaluate and control chemical substances manufactured, imported and placed on the European market.
